1. Electron microscopy of intestinal biopsies was not done in our study, thus we cannot rule out the possibility that microsporidia were present. 2. The uptake of PT-gliadin was monitored by immunofluorescence microscopy of intestinal biopsy specimens, using affinity purified PT-gliadin antibodies. 3. Several workers have investigated the breakdown of gliadin at the level of the enterocytes, using homogenates of intestinal biopsies from patients and controls. 4. A small intestinal biopsy specimen was taken from the third part of the duodenum, and routinely processed for histological examination. 5. Small intestinal biopsy specimens were histologically normal in the coeliac disease patients on a gluten free diet and in the symptomatic control group. |
