1. During an acute hyperglycaemia induced by intravenous infusion of glucose, gastric emptying, gastric acid secretion and pancreatic enzyme secretion are reduced in healthy subjects. 2. Data for enzyme secretion parallelled changes in secretory volume. 3. There was no correlation between duodenal juice protein, enzyme turnover rates, and enzyme secretion. 4. Non-parallel enzyme secretion has been shown in patients with normal pancreatic function under certain stimulatory conditions. 5. Various animal studies have shown inhibition of pancreatic enzyme secretion by pancreatic proteases in the duodenum. 6. Enzyme turnover would correlate with enzyme secretion only if pool sizes were similar. 7. While indomethacin alone did not affect amylase secretion, together with cyclosporin A it caused significant inhibition of enzyme secretion. |
