1. Triebling et al have recently claimed that ammonia production does play a pathogenic role in the development of H pylori related gastritis in man. 2. Significantly decreased antral total peptic activity was found in patients with H pylori positive gastritis compared with control, and H pylori negative gastritis. 3. Secondly, gastrin concentrations could be increased through local inflammation as gastrin concentrations are also increased in patients with non- H pylori induced gastritis. 4. Secretion is impaired in Helicobacter pylori associated chronic gastritis. 5. This secretion fails with the onset of Helicobacter pylori acute gastritis and remains impaired in H pylori associated chronic gastritis. 6. H pylori positive gastritis, and the combination of active duodenitis and gastric metaplasia were independent predictors of duodenal ulceration. |
