Fill the plug hole with a wooden dowel, drill a pilot hole and drive a new screw. 4. If the wood is torn, fill it so the new screw will have some solid material to grip. 5. Pull the old cover free and put the newer cover in its place with a new screw. 6. The new screws will bring the plywood layers together and secure them permanently to the joists. 7.
