1.   I accept that on the River Creedy the foam comes from effluent discharged from the three sewage treatment works upstream.

2.   It consists of stripping these compounds out at sewage treatment works.

3.   The latter requirement would probably apply to all four treatment works but as yet the FRPB have not indicated if and where phosporous reduciton would apply.

4.   Sewage treatment works do not remove radioactivity.

5.   Projects covered by the deal include effluent treatment works and gas supplies to eliminate the use of brown coal.

6.   Water quality campaigners say a new treatment works to take nitrates out of drinking water is just money poured down the drain.

7.   Polluters who were responsible for an oil spillage in the River Tees which closed a treatment works could be prosecuted.

8.   Mr Midgley said the spillage had been traced to near Lartington treatment works, but there were no reports of wildlife or fish being affected.

9.   Long sea out-falls and more sewage treatment works will help improve beach quality, he said.
