1. A well defined form According to my dictionary, a tree can be any perennial plant having a self-supporting woody main stem. 2. Its rigid main stem needs no support, even when loaded with flowers and pods. 3. Many branches are produced on the main stems. 4. Multi-sprouting will induce more main stems which produce a larger number of small tubers. 5. Only occasionally does it become necessary to cut out main stems, such as when they become old, gnarled and barky. 6. Prune lateral shoots of wisteria if not done already, by cutting back to four or five leaves from the main stems. 7. As the city, locust-like, devoured open spaces northward from about Canal Street, the two main stems were Broadway and the Bowery. 8. At this point in the season the main stems are brittle. 9. A second strategy for success is the ability of the roots to send up another stem if the main stem is damaged. 10. If the main stem of the young tree divides into two branches of nearly equal size, one of the branches should be removed while the tree is young. |
