1.   Mkapa, accompanied by business leaders, will visit bonded manufacturing zones in Nairobi and is expected to attend a working dinner with the Kenyan business community.

2.   Previously, only government companies were allowed to run bonded zones.

3.   The new measure also will allow Indonesian private companies to open bonded zones, areas exempt from value-added tax, making their goods more competitive.

4.   He stressed that the imports must be used for further manufacturing process in bonded zones, from which all finished goods are exported.

5.   The Indonesian island Batam, just south of Singapore, is an already established bonded zone.
