1.   First they attacked the small regional airport, destroying a plane and the three helicopters that could have been deployed to stop them.

2.   In Karachi, meanwhile, thousands of paramilitary Rangers, dressed in bulletproof vests, were deployed to stop vehicles and searching for weapons, witnesses said.
