1. These differences were mostly caused by the increase in the weights in the treated groups compared with the control group. 2. The median increase in the steroid treated group was significantly greater than in the elemental diet group. 3. Neverthless, a beneficial effect of surgery on ultimate height is suggested, particularly given the more severe disease of the surgically treated group. 4. To show whether simultaneous consideration of different morphometric measurements could discriminate between differently treated groups, the data were analysed by discriminant analysis. 5. Comparison of arterial blood gas tensions and VAS necessarily, therefore, excluded the most sick patients in the conventionally treated group. 6. We also did comparisons between the placebo group and the two actively treated groups combined, and separate analyses for adults and children. 7. Overall, the placebo group had three times more tissue growth than did the treated group. 8. The children in the treated group received injections of up to seven substances they were allergic to, including dust mites, molds, weeds and grasses. 9.
