1.   Domingo Cavallo, the former economy minister whose stability program rescued Argentina from decades of economic stagnation, started a centrist opposition party.

2.   Fernandez said he is confident the stability program will be successful.

3.   His departure would probably prompt investors to move money out of the country, endangering the fixed exchange rate system which is the cornerstone of the stability program.
