1.   Be sure the soil stays barely moist, not waterlogged.

2.   But because soil stays damp longer in fall, probe for moistness with your finger before irrigating.

3.   Fertilize very sparingly, and be sure the soil stays moist but not wet.

4.   If the soil stays too wet for too long, the plant will suffer and may die.

5.   Water just enough so that the soil stays evenly moist.
