1.   Both the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum signed amicus briefs, arguing that visual art deserved the same protection as the written word.

2.   Gov. George W. Bush, the man who would be president, signed a brief urging the Supreme Court to hear the case.

3.   The brief was also signed by the attorney generals of Alabama, Idaho, Nebraska, South Carolina, South Dakota and Virginia.

4.   The brief was also signed, among others, by the leading Democrats on telecommunication issues, Rep. Edward Markey of Massachusetts and Sen. Ernest Hollings of South Carolina.
