1.   New shoots appear near the parent plant.

2.   One parent plant can provide up to twenty new ones from four to five stalks during the vegetative period.

3.   The new plant will have characteristics of both parent plants.

4.   Many plant cells continue to grow and divide, even when divorced from the parent plant, if placed in a suitable culture medium.

5.   As a tree matures, sprouts originating from the roots may appear five feet or more from the parent plant.

6.   As the bloom fades, one or two offsets emerge at the base of the parent plant.

7.   Bamboo or weed, all of them spread like . . . well, like weeds, through underground rhizomes branching from the parent plant.
