Raloxifene is among the first of an expected series of modified estrogen-like drugs designed to provide some of the benefits of natural estrogen without the downsides. 6. Since natural estrogens are known to promote the growth of breast tumors, anything that interferes with their activity should lower the risk of breast cancer. 7. Soy contains weak estrogens called isoflavones, which may mimic some of the effects of natural estrogen. 8. The first to reach the market, tamoxifen, blocks the ability of natural estrogens to stimulate growth of breast tissue. 9. The new concern focuses on man-made chemicals that act like natural estrogens, the female sex hormones. 10.
