1.   By the third quarter, the dollar stood dramatically low against the German mark and the Japanese yen.

2.   When converted into German marks, the workers would not be earning a great deal.

3.   The ten million German mark bid was made on letter-headed paper of a company called Investment Chartwork.

4.   Also moving sharply Thursday was the dollar, which fell against the German mark and the Japanese yen, continuing a three-day slide.

5.   Also putting pressure on bonds were rising prices of gold and other commodities and a slumping dollar against the German mark, traders said.

6.   Among investment funds, where clients were once advised to diversify into, say, French francs or German marks, there are now euros.

7.   And in the absence of other safe harbors, traders are putting their money into the German mark and the Swiss franc, both of which have soared.

8.   And it was a week of struggle for the dollar as investors rushed to buy German marks.

9.   And the dollar was up against the Japanese yen and the German mark.

10.   And the German mark remained strong despite the big fiscal stimulus provided by unification with East Germany.
