1. Endless pollution from deep within a mountain side Iron Mountain is riddled with abandoned copper mines. 2. A National Center for Cool and Cold Water Aquaculture that would study whether fish can be raised on farms and in abandoned mines in West Virginia. 5. Abandoned mines perforate the hills and tell of short but acute prosperity. 6. But a search for sourdoughs turns up a lot of abandoned mines and lonely hillsides. 7. In response, the North American Bats and Mines Project, a national initiative to seal abandoned mines with bat-friendly gates, has been gaining momentum. 8. In the United States, a common cause of such fires has been the burning of trash dumped into abandoned mines. 9.
