1. Amidst growing efforts to expand the federal hate crimes law, Idaho lawmakers said they were skeptical of the need to change the current policy. 2. And that, Bill Clinton and Ted Kennedy and others claim, is why a federal hate crimes law must be enacted. 3. A campaign spokesman said Bush supports a separate federal bill that would increase money for states to prosecute criminals under their own hate crimes laws. 4. But few have been prosecuted under the original hate crimes law because it is considered too vague by many prosecutors. 5. But prosecutors asked for a harsher penalty under the state hate crimes law. 6. But some have said making reference to sexual orientation or sexual preference in the hate crimes law could spark claims for gay-rights issues, including civil unions. 7.
