1.   Chalone Wine Group reports that a normal bud break follows an overall mild winter with adequate rainfall.

2.   If possible, spray with zinc three times between bud break and June.

3.   Monthly zinc sprays from bud break through June not only will help the growth of the tree but encourage it into production.

4.   Once there is bud break and new growth starts, woody plants pump most of their energy into growing leaves and new stems.

5.   Rains delayed the bud break about a month and hampered pollination.
