1.   Cutting to outside bud eyes encourages outward growth, which aids air circulation, and in turn, plant health.

2.   Select a plump bud eye and make the cut about one-quarter inch above it.

3.   Six months later, tiny bud eyes are cut from vigorous seedlings with attractive flowers and grafted onto a fast-growing rootstock.

4.   The farther down the cane the bud eye is, the stronger and larger the new bloom will be.
