1. Fortunately, some sediments, by rare good fortune, survive from very ancient times with little or no loss of legibility. 2. Just one letter from Tyndale survives from his long period in prison. 3. Several buildings in the town have survived from medieval times. 4. The lace curtains seemed to have survived from obscurity, like the antique gown of a jilted bride. 5. The people of the Middle Ages inherited sea-walls and drainage channels which had survived from the Roman occupation. 6. Only a few written records survive from those times. 7. Herstmonceux Castle in Sussex survives from this period, as does the later moated house of Oxburgh Hall in Norfolk. 8. In Cracow, sections of the city walls survive from Medieval building. 9. In Stockholm, the Riddarholm Church survives from the Franciscan Abbey, founded in the thirteenth century. |
