3.   Hundreds of leftist rebels bombarded Colombian villages in fighting that has left two policemen dead, police said Sunday.

4.   In a statement late Thursday, rebel highlands leader Comandante David denounced army weapons searches in six rebel villages, and other supporters reported searches in four more.

5.   Meanwhile, there were more reports that federal troops entered rebel villages in the eastern canyons of Chiapas to search for weapons.

6.   On Thursday, the president ended a yearlong truce with the leftist Indian rebels in southern Chiapas state, sending thousands of troops to occupy former rebel villages.

7.   Reconnaissance aircraft are in constant flight over the rebel villages, and when the planes locate militants, they call in the attack planes and helicopters.

8.   The army recently established a camp in rebel territory and has stepped up patrols through key rebel villages.

9.   The government last month removed police checkpoints near rebel controlled villages after Western monitors and ethnic Albanian politicians asked them to do so in a confidence building measure.

10.   For days they have been ferrying in supplies on foot, as Russian artillery batteries pound the rebel village.
