1.   Projects include performing surgery on gunshot victims in Sierra Leone, improving sanitation in East Timor, providing anesthesia in Kosovo and striving to prevent cholera in Nigeria.

2.   Dr. Lassine Konate of the Health Ministry said a commission charged with educating the public about how to prevent cholera had been established to deal with the outbreak.

3.   Health chiefs repeated earlier warnings that people travelling abroad should make sure they have good personal and food hygiene to prevent cholera.

4.   The roads are blocked by soldiers trying to prevent cholera from spreading north.

5.   The UNHCR said French and Belgian medical teams have begun a vaccination programme to prevent cholera spreading among the flood of refugees.
