1.   Dust got into one of the circuit breakers on the machine and apparently shorted it out.

2.   As you clean off the power supply, dust invariably will get on the components.

3.   Maybe excess dust got into the drive or the spindle lubricant turned into sludge.

4.   When dust gets into the furnace and is blown across the heat exchanger, it can carbonize and turn black.
