1. Research into colorectal tumours has directly or indirectly contributed to the discovery of three new tumour suppressor genes. 2. Patients with colorectal tumours and inflammatory bowel disease underwent standard bowel preparation which consisted of a low residue diet for two days and picolax on the day before surgery. 3. The rate in benign colorectal tumours, however, has not been previously documented. 4. The prospective study, however, indicated a clear cut association between pseudomelanosis coli and colorectal tumours in man. 5. This seems to be the mechanism for c-myc activation in colorectal tumours. 6. Normal colonic tissue and tissues from inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal tumours were obtained from the department of surgery at our university. |
