1.   Almost immediately after the election, Gilstrap persuaded the county commissioners to close the courthouse, kicking out the library, museum and historic society.

2.   Amid heightened security, officials closed local courthouses and post offices, closed airports, evacuated LAX and sent home all non-essential employees from the Federal Building.

3.   The San Fernando courthouse still is closed.

4.   But the Manhattan courthouse is closed because of the devastation at the Trade Center a few blocks away.

5.   The courthouse was closed for several hours Friday while bomb-squad members searched the car for explosives.
