1.   An ordinary ceiling box for a chandelier or other connection will not do.

2.   A fan weighs considerably more than a simple lighting fixture, so the ceiling box must be properly braced and mounted to support this weight.

3.   Gently push the wires into the ceiling box and tighten the mounting bolts.

4.   Hook the fixture to the ceiling box.

5.   If you install a ceiling fan, be sure you install it in a ceiling box designed specifically for ceiling fans.

6.   The bracket may be connected to the threaded stud in the ceiling box.

7.   The ground can be attached directly to the ceiling box with a ground screw, which is virtually always green.

8.   Turn off the electric power and dismantle the fixture if necessary, before unscrewing it from its ceiling box.
