1.   He struggled early though, bogeying the first, fifth and sixth holes.

2.   Oldcorn started the round one ahead of the field but bogeyed the first after pulling his drive into the rough.

3.   Stricker birdied five and six and Grappasonni double bogeyed the first after his second shot dropped into the green-side burn for a penalty.

4.   Law bogeyed the first, third and fourth holes but also made a remarkable six birdies in eight holes to improve from one over to two-under.

5.   Masters champion Nick Faldo and Woosnam were among the later starters, but Faldo bogeyed two of his first three holes and Woosnam bogeyed the first.
