1.   Offsetting the decliners were retailers such as Makro Plc and most phone network operators, which rose on expectations spending on basic goods will continue to expand.

2.   Offsetting those losses were gains in trading company and retailer stocks.

3.   Offsetting those gains were declines in telecommunications shares such as KDD.

4.   Partially offsetting the increases were declines in prices of motor vehicles, local government rates and charges, fresh vegetables and fresh potatoes.
