61.   Garbage collection, postal and rescue services were hampered by poor roads that prevent access, it said.

62.   Garbage collection has been suspended since the quake, and huge mounds of trash are accumulating on the streets, raising fears about disease.

63.   Garbage collection has deteriorated since private contractors took over the services two years ago and were unable to meet routine schedules.

65.   GOVERNMENT-appointed Alam Flora, entrusted with the responsibility of garbage collection and disposal for Kuala Lumpur, has shown satisfactory performance.

66.   He had also said that he would raise the issue of garbage collection and drain cleaning services with Alam Flora.

67.   He said food supplies were dwindling, the water supply was inadequate and suspended garbage collection posed risk of outbreak of disease.

68.   He said he has turned some of that around by overhauling government management practices and tracking virtually everything, from garbage collection to city employee absenteeism to complaints.

69.   He said, however, the council would still be responsible for garbage collection from hotels, condominiums and flats.

70.   Health officials also requested local authorities to speed up garbage collection, increase rodent control and ban swimming in lakes known for their poor water quality.
