11. In Tokyo, Indonesian Vice President Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie told a Japanese newspaper Friday that Indonesia had abandoned the idea of pegging the rupiah to the dollar. 12. Indonesia has repeatedly said it is preparing to set up a currency board, which would peg the rupiah to a hard currency. 13. It was boosted by plans to peg the rupiah to the U.S. dollar at a fixed rate of exchange. 14. It will peg the rupiah at a fixed exchange rate to the chosen anchor currency, say, the U.S. dollar. 15. Prabhakar Narvekar, however, cautioned that Indonesia should take into account all necessary factors before taking any decision on pegging the rupiah to a fixed exchange rate. 16. Soeharto has indicated on several occasions that he might move to peg the rupiah to a more acceptable level. 17. Suharto has said that he is considering setting up a currency board to peg the rupiah to the U.S. dollar. 18.
