Current evidence indicates that older people are more healthy than popular stereotypes suggest. 15. Despite these disadvantages, many older people have been able to maintain their social status by remaining active, alert and healthy. 16. Diabetes affects older people and racial minorities disproportionately. 17. Disability and age While the vast majority of older people are able to live independently, significant minorities experience considerable difficulties. 18. Employment training guidelines discriminate directly against older people. 19. Family hostility often arises when the expectations of older people make quite unrealistic demands upon younger relatives. 20. Family ties have been weakened by older people living apart from their children. |
