11.   With lead no longer airborne or contaminating crop soil, the entire country has benefited -- with one glaring exception.

12.   The soil is contaminated with cancer-causing PCBs, polychlorinated biphenyls, which leaked from an old refrigeration unit at the base in the southern town of Incirlik.

13.   The soil became badly contaminated from byproducts of steelmaking, including ammonia, benzene and sulfates.
