1. Mike Rowbottom reports on how the inmates work together to change their lives in part two of our series, Inside Story. 2. But given that inmates work with pitchforks, shovels and shears, security concerns are paramount and gardeners are pat-searched coming and going. 3. But several inmates working outside the prison this week said the reports did not go far enough in describing the conditions inside. 4. He told me he wanted me to find some way to have inmates work out there. 5. In lieu of writing a check, inmates can work off their debt through such community service as picking up trash and washing buses. 6. Inmates already work as telemarketers and make things from bicycle parts to novelty items through the Prison Industry Enhancement Programs. 7. Jail inmates cannot work on their site, or visit anywhere in the community. 8. Many other inmates work in food service, groundskeeping, sign-making, printing and distribution of brochures for government agencies. 9. Moore also removed prison weight lifting equipment and required that inmates work to earn privileges. |
