1. The Arundel-trained colt came to the course having shown up so well on his home gallops that he held a Royal Ascot date. 2. All that could be done was wait it out to see if the colt came around. 3. First, he said he would run neither filly in the Derby if his colts came through. 4. His trainer, Roger Attfield, reported that the colt had come down with a virus infection but was strong now. 5. It had been scheduled for Wednesday morning, but the colt came down with a mild blood disorder and seemed dull, so the workout was postponed one day. 6. The colt came out of Florida last winter with consecutive victories in the Fountain of Youth Stakes and the Florida Derby. 7. The colt came up lame with a soft-tissue injury in his left front leg. 8. The colt quickly came to a dead stop and begin frantically kicking his back heels in frustration, kicking them high and kicking them strong. 9. The colt came out of the race with stiffness in his right front ankle, and that was enough for trainer David Hoffmans to put him on the shelf. 10. The colt came into the race after winning a minor stakes on the Preakness-day undercard and appeared way overmatched Saturday. |
