1.   In arid regions, rainfall above the average one year will produce a particularly thick annual ring.

2.   Water from the Great Lakes is pumped to arid regions.

3.   The pattern of light and dark areas represents variation in rock type and surface weathering in this arid region.

4.   Although frequently associated with hot desert regions, the effects of salt weathering have also been observed in high-latitude arid regions such as Antarctica.

5.   Similarly, thin beds of limestone do not permit the development of underground drainage while in arid regions there is insufficient water for significant limestone weathering to occur.

6.   Another ICBG project, working in arid regions in several Northern Mexican states and in Oaxaca, has been affected, although work continues in Chile and Argentina.

7.   Additional showers and thunderstorms are likely in the Southwest Tuesday as moisture continues to be replenished in the atmosphere over normally arid regions.

8.   But along the same sea, scarcity of fresh water is an increasingly nagging issue farther west, in the arid regions of eastern Spain.

9.   Even better, the arid region will be in the midst of its dry season, increasing the chances of a cloud-free spectacle.
