On another front, the Ontario Labor Relations Board Wednesday adjourned until Thursday a hearing into whether replacement umpires can be used for Blue Jays games in Toronto. 3. Since the stalemate, the league has used umpires from other leagues, and parents and coaches also have pitched in. 4. That time they not only used minor league umpires during the strike but hired four for each league to continue working once the striking umpires returned. 5. A fifth umpire was used during the doubleheader. 6. Sri Lanka will become the latest nation to use women umpires. 7. The International Cricket Council said Friday it has not changed its plans to use neutral umpires in all test matches from next April. 8. The third umpire is used internationally to help with runouts, stumpings, hit-wicket and boundary-line decisions. 9. Baseball officials had said replacement umpires would be used if the crews failed to report to Orioles Park in Baltimore. |
