1.   At really low speeds, the speed-sensitive steering is oversensitive and handling becomes an unfeeling waffle.

2.   The steering is pin sharp and the delicate gearshift absolutely superb, swapping the cogs with a velvet action.

3.   Power assisted steering is standard on all models equipped with automatic gearboxes.

4.   Power assisted steering is also standard on all models powered by diesel engines.

5.   This steering is much lighter.

6.   But roadhandling was superb, and the steering was tight and predictable.

7.   Even so, the Excursion felt light and the steering was a little vague, though not so much as to affect control.

8.   Happily, the steering is light and the clutch operation is unexpectedly delicate, making it simple to take advantage of the six forward gears.

9.   It did not ride as comfortably as some of the others, but the steering was direct and accurate.

10.   On ordinary roads, both feel heavier than Explorers and Blazers I have driven, and the steering is noticeably less precise, even to passengers.
