1. Among those, the U.S. State Department has designated Syria, North Korea, Libya, Iran and Iraq as state sponsors of terrorist activity. 2. And we have an obligation to support their families in their bereavement and to wipe out the state sponsors of their killers. 3. A provision of the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act creates an exception to immunity from suit for state sponsors of terrorism. 4. But Syria itself is on the U.S. State Department list of state sponsors of terrorism. 5. But the Defense Department, conspicuously Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, urged a broader campaign to include other state sponsors of terrorism, notably Iraq. 6. But while Bush talked almost exclusively about terrorism and its state sponsors, the countries here had other matters in mind. 7. For good measure, Cuba was included, as expected, on the list of state sponsors of terror released the next day by the State Department. 8. Iran is named as a state sponsor of terrorism by the State Department, along with Cuba, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan and Syria. 9. Iraq, among seven countries considered by the U.S. State Department to be a state sponsor of terrorism, is seen by many as the logical next target. 10. It has argued vehemently that the United States should declare Pakistan a state sponsor of terrorism. |
