1. The containers are made of peat and wood fiber laced with soluble fertilizer and peat pellets that expand when watered. 2. The use of soluble chemical fertilizers is banned, as they seep into rivers and pollute the water supply. 3. Always water it thoroughly after it dries out, giving it a soluble fertilizer with every third watering. 4. Although this mix offers nutrients, I supplement them with more or less regular applications of some soluble fertilizer, except in midwinter, when the plant is resting. 5. Apply a primarily nitrogen soluble fertilizer twice a month during the growing season. 6. As the plants mature, you may want to give them another dose of dilute soluble fertilizer, to supplement what their roots find in the soil. 7. Feed with soluble fertilizer when you set the jar out next spring, and feed again when blossoms appear. 8. Many apply soluble fertilizers every two weeks. 9. Soluble liquid fertilizer at one-quarter to one-half strength every three weeks is plenty. |
