1.   A panel of lawyers, academics, consultants, writers and civil rights activists selected the winners.

2.   They selected the winner from six finalists.

3.   Winners will be selected at the end of each calendar month.

4.   All applications must be received by the end of May when the Committee reviews applications and selects the winners in each group.

5.   At the re-union one card will be drawn to select the winner.

6.   And for the first time, impact on the community was used as a criterion for selecting winners.

7.   A panel of three judges appointed each year by the academy will select the winner, with a chancellor of the academy acting as chairman.

8.   A smaller number select the winners of individual and technical categories.

9.   A winner will be selected by the seven previously rejected survivors.

10.   After the scholarship winners were selected, the Revson Foundation asked them to name the teachers who had made a major difference in their lives.
