1.   British Prime Minister John Major, however, has said he backs deep sea disposal.

2.   Of those, three or four rigs could be suitable for deep sea disposal within the next two years, he said.

3.   If and when Shell decides on an alternative to deep sea disposal of the rig, it must submit the plans to the British government for ratification.

4.   That proposal will have to contain solutions to the problems which led to the identification of deep sea disposal as the best practicable environmental option.
