1. A great boom in public libraries has left New England dotted with wonderfully preserved buildings of granite, slate, brick, wood, stained glass, and stone. 2. It is a city rich in architectural monuments, ranging from the spectacular Gothic cathedral to magnificently preserved buildings from each of the past five centuries. 3. Though much of the camp was razed and is now open fields, the preserved buildings include some of the prison cells, a disinfection chamber and the crematorium. 4. A few illegal squatters have installed furniture in better preserved buildings, apparently for use during the summer. |
