1. Political passion does not grow from seeds as dry as these. 2. Although former Sandinista leader Daniel Ortega is leading the race, the political passions have died down, and economic worries are uppermost on the minds of most Nicaraguans. 3. And the mix becomes lethal, as it did in Yugoslavia, if race, ethnicity or religion are then used to inflame political passions. 4. Another decade of pointless dying ensued largely because long-embedded American political passions demanded it. 5. Behind the scenes, there have been bitter recriminations on both sides, and the dispute has inflamed political passions among some current Kennedy Center board members. 6. A court that proceeds incrementally is more likely to proceed unanimously, and unanimity can go a long way toward deflecting political passions. 7. A strong value of the Board of Regents has been its relative independence from partisan political passions. 8. About the only bright spot is that the tragedy has, for the moment, cooled political passions and brought people together. 9. But activists on both sides said political passions will not die easily however the election is decided. 10. But ethnic political passions are clearly a backdrop against which the discussions among Bronx Democrats will take place. |
