1.   Among the various effects attributed to the chemical release are death, blindness, liver failure, birth defects, neurological impairment, asthma, conjunctivitus and chronic headaches.

2.   Only when they were compared en masse to the control group did significant evidence of neurological impairment emerge.

3.   Some children with XP suffer blindness, hearing loss, neurological impairment and mental retardation, although the connection is unclear.

4.   Subsequent studies showed similar results in humans, especially in men with diabetic neurological impairments.

5.   But in an editorial accompanying the study, Robert Block of the University of Iowa said the evidence of long-term neurological impairment remains inconclusive.
