1.   If he competes and does poorly, perhaps he will instill doubt in his own mind and in the minds of international judges.

2.   The Reds, however, believe they can instill doubt in yet another Dodgers starter if they can jump out to an early lead.

3.   They rely as much on their championship reputation, one that instills doubt in their foes, as they do on their ability to obliterate the opposition.

4.   Even the slightest hesitancy, or even backtracking on reform, would surely instill doubt and undermine confidence.
