1. Applied with fine steel wool, the wax can darken faded wood and provide a resistant finish. 2. A water-based polyurethane varnish will darken the wood less, so I would recommend the water-based polyurethane. 3. If the water from the splash test soaks in and darkens the wood, your old seal has given out, and you must apply a new seal. 4. If the water quickly soaks in, darkening the wood where it lands, the deck is ready for resealing. 5. That stain is permanent, water having penetrated the varnish and darkened the wood underneath. 6. The wax darkened the wood in the gaps, disguising them. 7. These dry to a dull, satin sheen and will darken the wood slightly. 8. These will not darken the wood as much as the oils and they eliminate the need for stripping off all of the old finish. |
