1.   Bring a pot of water to a boil and quickly blanch broccoli for a few seconds until color darkens.

2.   The amber color darkens more than fine old fortified wine.

3.   The color darkens for a day and then begins to fade.

4.   There are two tiny nicks in its front, and over the years the slate-gray color will darken.
