1.   Airlines have tried to quietly boost such fares no fewer than six times dating back to the spring, according to analyst Sam Buttrick of PaineWebber.

2.   In the last few days, USAir Group Inc., UAL Corp. and Delta Air Lines Inc. boosted fares for the second time in two weeks.

3.   Last week Continental led an effort to boost leisure fares.

4.   But Southwest Airlines said it will continue to collect the surcharge, essentially boosting fares.

5.   Northwest announced its higher fares Thursday, and by late evening American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines had boosted their fares.

6.   The airline also boosted fares in certain markets and saw gains in its streamlined hotel business.

7.   The government has not allowed the BMTA to boost its fares in line with its operating costs to avoid impacting to low-income earners.

8.   The Minnesota-based carrier boosted fares in January and again in March, saying the increases were related to rising fuel costs.

9.   Branson insists that the proposed pact would reduce competition over the Atlantic and boost fares.

10.   But transport companies said they boosted the fares to cover operating expenses and they have rejected calls by national, local and union officials to rescind the price hikes.
