1.   American tried to cut business fares and simplify the rest of its fare structure.

2.   Big carriers are taking the initiative to cut fares, as well.

3.   A new accord must also permit American carriers to cut their fares at will, at least for flights originating in the United States.

4.   A recent General Accounting Office report said the slot system is dominated by large airlines and gives them virtual monopolies at those airports and little incentive to cut fares.

5.   Again, the idea of tax cuts fares poorly.

6.   Airlines VASP, TAM and Transbrasil have followed suit, cutting fares on select flights, including Rio de Janeiro-Sao Paulo.

7.   But revenue has not recovered as quickly because airlines have been forced to cut fares in order to fill their seats.

8.   But they also cut fares to fill seats.

9.   Continental Airlines, Southwest Airlines and all their competitors have been aggressively cutting fares.

10.   Continental has cut fares on the service and sought to make up the lost revenue by running more daily flights.
