1.   There was a rally in the euro, but hopes of a recovery to a one-to-one parity did not materialise.

2.   On the previous day there had been rallies in many parts of the Russian Federation in support of Yeltsin, and in opposition to Gorbachev and the Union Treaty.

3.   Among the Democrats attending the rally was Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Houston.
